Tarentel “Steede Bonnet”

01/20/2011

Slow song for a slow night. Tarentel is one of the many bands I’m aware of because of my friend Greg’s continued devotion to new music after I kind of burned out as music director at KAUR. My student-run college radio station is now a transmitter for Minnesota Public Radio, ensuring the college will never see a cent from me again. This Tarentel track is from their first full-length, the instrumental rock classic From Bone To Satellite.  Fans of Mogwai, Labradford, Sigur Ros and Godspeed You! Black Emperor should definitely give that one a listen. Tarentel is one of those bands that got more experimental and ambitious as they developed and changed personnel, and while they only made a few more records with a goal as majestic as this one, their efforts to combine aggressive percussion and noisy drones later in their career are positively inspiring.

If I ever get my act together with the surf band, “Steede Bonnet” will make a sweet cover song.
