Grouper “When We Fall”

03/25/2011

Really enjoying Grouper‘s Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill over the past few days.  It’s a very suggestive background/ambient record, nostalgic and hazy.  “When We Fall” is one of several songs that seems to borrow part of a musical phrase from church hymns, “Away In A Manger” in this case.  The last verse of that hymn happened to be the most common bedtime prayer for me as a child, so it definitely strikes a sepia-toned chord for me.
